Don't Burn With a Cracked Firebox.

The firebox is the brick interior of your fireplace that takes the direct heat of the fire. Mortar joints deteriorate, firebrick cracks, and the back wall slumps — all of which let flames and heat reach surfaces that aren't fire-rated.

We rebuild firebox interiors using proper refractory mortar and firebrick rated for direct flame contact. For severely damaged fireboxes, we do full tear-out and rebuild with the original profile intact.

Can I just patch a cracked firebrick?+
Small cracks can sometimes be tuckpointed with refractory mortar — but only after a proper assessment. Larger cracks or missing brick require replacement.
Is it safe to burn with cracks in the firebox?+
No. Even small cracks can let flames or heat reach combustible structure behind the firebox. Don't burn until it's repaired.
How long does a firebox rebuild take?+
Tuckpointing and minor brick replacement is usually 1 day. A full rebuild typically takes 2-3 days plus curing time before the first burn.
Will the new brick match the existing brick?+
For interior firebox brick we use fire-rated brick which may differ slightly from your existing — but the result is uniform and clean. We can show photos before committing.
